Historie
On the site of the Magnus Church, the gospel has been preached since the 9th century. Excavations by Prof Dr A.E. van Giffen showed that the current nave had a number of wooden predecessors, presumably built in the 9th and 10th centuries. In the Middle Ages, Anloo was the main town of the dingspil Oostermoer. The church of Anloo was the mother church of Oostermoer, which extended from Zuidlaren to Borger. The church owes its name to Magnus, bishop of Trani (Italy). The bishop was canonised after his martyrdom. His death anniversary is commemorated on 19 August. On the third weekend of August, Etstoel is held around the church and the Brink.
